That depends on the pet. $20-$1000 USD is common based on what type of pet you’re adopting, their age and their health. For example, a gecko will have a smaller adoption fee than a purebred cat or dog. Another example, a cat with chronic health issues will be adopted out at a lower cost to help alleviate some of the financial strain of continued medical care.
Because we do what is right, not what is cheap.
You can easily find a sick or unhealthy animal to adopt, but that does not mean they’ll be with you for a long time and this approach often results in heartbreak. (We’re looking at you, Craigslist, Hoobly, Kijiji and others.)
We know this and we try to put in the work up-front to prevent this from occurring. We perform DNA testing; specialized diagnostics like echocardiogram; a full medical workup including viral testing; surgical alteration; microchipping, dental cleaning (if needed) and much more.
We have all veterinary care performed by accredited individuals at veterinary clinics throughout North America. You won’t find any feed-store vaccines or dewormer used to lower the cost of our adoptions. We do it right the first time. In fact, we do it better than many breeders.
By the way, if we are? You shouldn’t be supporting them!! Click here for breeders that we know, love, respect, support and have already vetted for you: (link here to the breeders page)
You sure can, but not from us.
We use and recommend a raw diet approved by a veterinarian. You can learn about the benefits and risks of a raw diet by visiting the following website run by Lisa Pierson, DVM: https://catinfo.org
We approve of many commercial options, as well, ranging from Applaws to Ziwipeak.
The single brand that we recommend you avoid is Blue Buffalo. This company has a poor track record involving the development of urinary crystals, stones and pancreatitis in both cats and dogs. We will not even feed it to feral cats.
Never. Our adoptable animals are not chattel.
Absolutely not! We are actually very active in the community with the breeds that we rescue most often. There’s a place for responsible breeding alongside rescue work. We work with only stellar breeders, though, and our standards are very high. Feel free to visit our supported breeders page here that have already been vetted for you: (link to breeders page). These folks are setting the standard for breeding, genetic testing, health, temperament, longevity and so much more.
If you cannot find what you are looking for in rescue, do consider supporting a responsible breeder. As always, if the breeder you want to support is not HCM testing their cats every year and DNA testing them before breeding, do not support them. If the kitten does not come to you fully vaccinated, microchipped and altered, do not support them. If they come with papers or medical records that they will “send in the future”, do not support them. We will do a future article on how to sniff out a scam and bad breeders, saving you money and avoiding heartache in the long run.
We do. We adopt internationally! As you can see, being mobile has its advantages.
You can download our canine or feline adoption applications here: (canine link) and (feline link).
You will hear back IF your application is selected to move forward.
If you don’t hear back from us, don’t be offended. We often have a waiting list for our adoptable pets and we receive so many applications that we simply cannot reply to them all. Be aware that we DO NOT do “first come, first served” adoptions. We alway consider the pet’s personality to be the driving factor behind approving any home. If it is not a perfect fit, we do not consider that an ideal home. By avoiding the driving of round pegs into square holes, we have been able to achieve a near 0% return rate for our adoptable pets.
Nope! We’ve already done the hard stuff, so you’re getting the easy job. An adoption fee also allows us to keep our doors open for future animals that need help. Moreover, our adoption fees are a) cheaper by more than half of the expected purchase price from a breeder and b) tax deductible. By asking us to lower an already reasonable fee, you’re asking us to hinder our ability to help future animals so that we can help you. And the answer is no.
Excellent! We need that passion in the rescue community! That’s why Bald and Bully, Inc. was started, too, in fact! We encourage you to start your own rescue by visiting the following page: https://www.501c3.org/how-to-start-a-501c3-nonprofit/
